Conclusion
This experiment demonstrated the process of osmosis as the water moved from an area of higher concentration to an area of lower concentration. Both eggs swelled as both solutions (Table 1), despite one being mislabeled as hypertonic, and were hypotonic. My hypothesis was partially supported as the eggs both gained mass (graph 1) and were both placed in hypotonic solutions. The independent variable was unchanged although the egg in the saline solution did gain less mass possibly due to the fact that the saline solution had a lower concentration of water than the coloured water. Many variables such as amount of water were not controlled. In conclusion, this experiment was invalid and further testing is needed for a valid result.
